Today’s portrait project is all about skin, is all about feeling confident about our own skin and body.

We — at least most of us —  don’t feel good on our own skin, or our own body, and unfortunately we are always trying to improve it or trying to look like the American Beauty.

BEAUTY —  an “ideal beauty” is an entity which is admired, or possesses features widely attributed to beauty in a particular culture, for perfection.

Beauty shouldn’t be defined by society, and we shouldn’t be following the ideal beauty that is imposed. The ideal beauty is the one that we feel confident.

BEING ASIAN

For years, I didn’t feel beautiful, or at least, desirable by someone, only because I was born in an Asian country and with Asian features — I mean, that’s obvious.

People tend to hate or judge by the face, so during my entire teenage phase, I felt that I wasn’t desired, only judging by the fact that I’m Japanese, people called me names that I will never forget and it’s not a joke when you’re the joke, and you’re not laughing.

The “ideal beauty” that’s imposed by the society is the white, tall, blonde with blue eyes, American guy (or girl), and some time ago, I didn’t love myself or my ethnicity because of that.

I’ve learned to love myself and feel more confident about my Asian side, but that took me years and a lot of doubts about my own body and ethnicity.

LOVE YOURSELF

First of all, love yourself, because if you don’t learn to love yourself no one is gonna love you back, and yes, that took me a lot of time to realize that I should be loving myself first.

Be yourself, don’t be afraid to be different. If you were born in a different country, with a different culture, that’s what makes you stand out nowadays, not being average and trying to fit into the society, you don’t need to fit, you need to be you.
